Only in Europe

Posted by Rex Gambill in travel trailerstechnologyfun stuffEurope

In Europe, RVs are called "caravans."

Whatever you call them, I have never seen anything quite like the Mehrzeller.

Below is the text of a press release from the Austrian company that is selling these unique campers.

Caravans are cool again!

Mobility and living on the move are very important themes of our fast-moving age. People want to be mobile but at the same time, have a strong desire for a lasting home and their own personal four walls. In the camper market there is strong demand for new design and personalized, tailor-made solutions. Individualist tourists want a caravan that is made just for them.

The solution to the problem is offered by the “Mehrzeller” – the multicellular caravan. Using the online Configurator, every user sets up a design that is unique, their own layout that they can identify with. The configuration is generated by a computer using the customer’s inputs, and then the final design is done by parameters from the architects to yield an attractive and practicable result. The caravans are produced using the principles of “mass customization”: this allows both the individual wishes of the customer to be accommodated while producing the caravan with series methods. The cost of producing these unique caravans is only marginally more than a conventional mass-produced model.

The Mehrzeller thus introduces a new generation of mobile living. The project, which began as a degree project in Architecture at the Technical University of Graz, can be realized thanks to the support of many respected companies such as Design Composite, Alko, Truma, Dometic, Waeco, Alphatronics, Alugas, Jokon, Fiamma, Cleversolar, Simona, Moralt, Reimo, BMW and others.

The prototype of the Mehrzeller is being presented to the public for the first time at the Caravan-Salon 2008 in Düsseldorf from 29.08 - 07.09.2008 in Hall 15, Stand A48. There’ll be another opportunity to see the prototype at the Caravan Salon Austria from 15 -19.10.2008 in Wels.

Redneck RV deer stand

Posted by Rex Gambill in travel trailersFunny stuff

rex

Our redneck friends find many new and exciting uses for RVs.

Here a small travel trailer has apparently been converted to a deer stand.

However, if you want to buy a new travel trailer that can be used as a deer stand, I would refer you to Keystone RV's Outback Loft , which we carry here at Mid-State RV.

Hey, if you come across any more funny pics of RVs, post them to our forum.  All you have to do is register with our site, and you can post to the forum.

Ferrell Bridges (right) laughs as her husband, Dr. Wade Bridges of Bowman, Ga., tries out the inflatable air mattress hide-a-bed sofa in their new 2008 Coachmen Spirit of America 27RBS travel trailer. They were checking out the mattress as part of their two-hour walk-through orientation today. This is the second travel trailer the Bridges have bought from us here at Mid-State RV Center. Thank you, Dr. and Mrs. Bridges!

Fleetwood oughtta be ashamed

The above image was taken from a recent issue of RV Business magazine, which was reporting on Fleetwood RV "consolidating" U.S. and Canadian plants and establishing a manufacturing operation in Mexico in 2007, as part of the company's effort to regain towable market share.
While I have nothing against Mexico or Mexicans, it's a doggone shame that Fleetwood is following the car industry in sending American jobs north and south of the border. And now we hear that Fleetwood has sold its own headquarters for $23 million, hoping to fund a $100 million bond obligation due this December! Somebody at Fleetwood doesn't have their head on straight.

The baddest Adrenaline Surge available

Mid-State RV Center employee Dan Bellamy demonstrates the awning during customer Louis Gombkoto's walk-through orientation on delivery day. Louis Gombkoto of Silver Springs, Fla., found us on the Internet back in March, and he was specifically looking for a 29-foot Adrenaline Surge travel trailer toy hauler. Dissatisfied with Florida RV dealers, and planning a trip to Coachmen RV's manufacturing facility in nearby Fitzgerald, Ga., Louis knew exactly what he wanted in his next RV.

After visiting the engineering team in Fitzgerald, Louis contacted me and we went over all the features he wanted on his new Surge. Shortly thereafter, we placed an order for what is probably the most tricked-out Platinum Edition Adrenaline Surge in existence!

Mid-State RV Center employee Dan Bellamy (left) thanks customer Louis Gombkoto for his purchase on delivery day. Among the optional features on board are the Blue Blaze interior decor with Carbon Fiber woodgrain, double electric track queen bed and double sofa bed, 800 watt sound system, 4.0 kilowatt generator with fuel station, electric tongue jack, electric stabilizer jacks (!), a screen wall at the rear ramp area, heavy duty TPO flooring in the cargo area, and a roof ladder.

Furthermore, factory reps managed to install a 9 gallon water heater in place of the standard 6 gallon water heater; a second Shurflo power roof vent in the bedroom, and extra tiedowns in the cargo area - all options not listed among those available for the Surge toy hauler.

By the time delivery day rolled around, Louis and I were like old friends. Everything was ready to roll, and Louis was kind enough to send our owner a nice note afterwards.

Towing with a hybrid Lexus RX400H

Posted by Rex Gambill in travel trailerstowingcustomersAirstream

rex

This hybrid 2006 Lexus RX400H is perfectly capable of towing a 19-foot Airstream.

Larry and Beverly Purtymun of Pinelake, Ga., are the proud owners of not only a gorgeous silver 2006 Lexus RX400H hybrid SUV, but also an Airstream International (Bambi) 19. Despite the hybrid's towing capacity of only 3,500 lbs., don't rule it out as a tow vehicle for some travel trailers, including this lightweight Airstream.

My deepest thanks go to the Purtymuns. Happy camping!
